A Dementia Friendly Borough pdf icon PDF 253 KB

5.1  Sandra Cater and Councillor Yvonne Maxwell introduced the report outlining work being undertaken for the Borough to become dementia friendly. 

Sandra outline the priorities/work-streams as follows:

 

-  Health and Social Care

-  Housing (and Social Care)

-  Arts, Culture, and recreation

-  Schools, education and young people

-  Transport

-  Businesses, Shops, Banks and Post Offices

-  Emergency Services.

 

5.2  Sandra highlighted achievements, including that all General Practice practices in the Borough were working towards becoming Dementia Friendly and ensuring that there registers were up to date. All Community Pharmacists in hackney were Dementia Friends and participated in raising awareness events, providing medicines delivery and reviewing services for people affected. So far 4 secondary schools in Hackney were engaged and had received Dementia awareness Key Stage 12 and 13 assembly talks.  The Arts, Culture and Recreation HDAA members Group were arranging on a LBH Dementia Friendly Arts, Culture and Recreation Festival in Dementia Awareness Week 2018.  Events were led by people with disabilities.

 

5.3  Councillor Yvonne Maxwell, the Council’s Dementia Champion, told Council that it was hoped to present a motion to Council on dementia.   Meetings were on going with leisure public transport and the Health in Hackney Commission on how the Council’s Services impacted on the Borough’s population. Raj Radia emphasised the importance of vaccination services to protect individuals.   

 

5.4  Ida asked what training would be available for front line staff and the Councillor Maxwell’s told the Board 2 organisation had been involved in this but were experiencing funding difficulties and the chair agreed to raise this matter with the Council’s voluntary sector team.

6.1  Adi Cooper introduced the report providing an assessment of the key developments in local multi-agency adult safeguarding activities in 2016/17 in the City of London and the London Borough of hackney

7.1  Jon Williams introduced the report proposing a public launch of the Complaints Charter so that Hackney people are made aware of the aspirations the local health and social care bodies are committed to.
