Health and Wellbeing Board

Purpose of committee

The Health and Wellbeing Board was established from 1 April 2013 under the provisions of the Health and Social Care Act 2012. Its purpose is to provide a forum in which the local authority and the Clinical Commissioning Group can carry out their functions in relation to the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy. Although a formal Committee of the Council, it is unusual in that discharging the specific statutory duties conferred on it by the Act it consists not only of Councillors but also of Council officers and external partners as full members of the Committee. Details regarding the functions and establishment of the Board can be found at:

Prior to the introduction of the Health and Wellbeing Board an informal Shadow Board, Chaired by the Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture was in existence from September 2011.
