Cycling & Transport Issues

Minutes:

Proposed road closures – Middleton Road

·  Emma Browning and Chris Proctor (Streetscene) introduced proposals for trial road closures around Middleton Road as a way of reducing rat running and restricting access to pedestrians and cyclists.

·  Measures discussed are use of temporary bollards / crash barriers / plant boxes; residents will be informed in advance of trial commencing before end of 2015.

·  Council’s wider 10-year transport strategy is still being finalised

·  Concerns were raised regarding shared cycling / pedestrian pathways through London Fields, whilst some felt diverting the cycling route via Sheep Lane rather than through Broadway Market would benefit all users

3.

Broadway Market

Minutes:

Broadway Market

·  Alistair (Broadway Market Traders & Residents Association) responded to issue of pavement encroachment by clarifying that all businesses must allow 1.8 metres between kerb and outdoor tables. Monitoring is carried out by BMTRA and Market Inspectors; breaches of encroachment can be reported to Licencing Enforcement or Cllr Plouviez

·  Franco Manca – waste disposal problems have been addressed with the management, discussions over crowds on pavement outside shop with possible option of installing cordon

·  Alistair also asserted that pedestrianisation would harm businesses, whilst alternative measures (convert delivery to loading bays, extend vehicle weight restrictions to BM) may provide better solutions

·  Community event on BM proposed for August

4.

·  Cllrs Plouviez & Bramble to raise concerns at Enforcement working group
